It was actually developed by Pfizer as a heart medication. But, they suddenly discovered some interesting side-effects (hence its contra-indication to nitroglycerin-containing products). And, as the above posts mention, it is only by presciption from an MD (and it is one of the most over-prescribed meds on the market, so getting it won't be much of a problem)!
