What's the big deal about Medical Marijuana?!

Question:

What's the big deal about Medical Marijuana?

I fail to understand why marijuana is still unavailable to some people who have serious illnesses. Some politicians say, "We don't want to give children a mixed message."

OK, so that means, what? What's the message going to be?
Don't do drugs kids, oh and by the way, let uncle Charlie suffer a long and horrible death.

Wankers.

Politicians and lawmakers aren't living in the real world if they think keeping it illegal is actually going to stop people from using it whether it be recreational or otherwise.

Answers:

I've always thought that people could grow marijuana if they wanted to. This would bypass the need of having to buy it in a store, thereby nearly eliminating the government's ability to tax the heck out of it. Think about it: alcohol damages the brain in much the same fashion as smoking pot. I actually think alcohol is worse, because some people can become violent while drinking (smokers just get too lazy to do anything but eat). It's not a matter of marijuana being morally wrong; it's that the government can't cash in on it. That's probably their motivation for keeping it illegal.
