Naturopathic Massage?!

Question:

Naturopathic Massage?

I went for a full body massage at this naturopathic clinic I had been to 1x before. Before the massage he asked if I was comfortable with him hitting points at the pubic bone. I said it was fine. He told me I should motion a specific way when he went to far. When he reached that point he went beyond and did genital massage. I have been raped (and haven't delt with it yet) and at that point I started having flash backs. I was aware of him asking if everything was alright but I was so freaked out and I couldn't answer except I think I moved my head. He tried to go internal I was startled enough to come to and make the signal. He quickly stopped and I moved to my back. I started crying and asked to stop.Is this a normal part this type of massage? Is it something I should be concerned with? He said he also used a "release" oil that could have brought up memories as well.He and his wife spoke to me afterwards to calm me down and reassure me this was a safe place but i'm freaked out.Thoughts?

Answers:

I agree; this needs to be reported to the authorities. Start with the police. Keep going to the Licensing Board in your State (or local government). Consider notifying the newspaper too.

In my area, a year ago, a massage therapist had been doing this (assaulting ) to females over a period of years. Last year, one victim reported it within days of the occurrence. Once it hit the papers, others victims reported in and soon many victims stepped forward.

Bottom line: the offender was sent to jail, required to do treatment and lost his license.

Although it is uncomfortable to report it; think of the other people you will protect. I suspect after you report other victims will come forward.

Please contact your local Women's shelter or YWCA, they should be able to refer to a therapist who can help you cope with the rape trauma. Most counselors/ social workers/ psychologists are not specially trained to treat visits of sexual assault. It is essential to be treated by one who is!

(A good friend of mine was molested as a child--as an adult she realized she needed counseling, and living in a rural area, was counseled by an unqualified psychologist--his counseling damaged her more than the molestation did--so make sure you get a qualified one). Also most prosecuting attorney's office will have a Victims Advocate; they usually know the top notch counselors to refer victims to.

Good luck and take good care!!
