Answers:

since there is no directed medication to assit you can try three possible treatments that can assist. these work with all forms of addiction but are noticably LESS effective then a combined medical regiment (hence why they wanted to make the drugs for addiction in the first place)

ok 1) a support group can assist. chew, smoking, heroin, etc all of these can be helped by getting together with others and talking about the problem, no you don't need to 'give yourself over to a higher power' as some of these groups tell you to do or anything and no, simply talking about it will NOT making you suddenly lose your addiction but simply KNOWING that an addiction can be beaten will help. this could be as simple as spending some time once a week to have your brother sit with friends and family and talk about it. it sounds easy but it's not. it also seems like a ton of rubbish but then all addictions have a physical AND mental component and treating just one will not help.

2) exercise and healthy eating. again sounds odd but it makes sense if you think about it. your body is getting thumped with all kinds of compounds that are saying 'you need this!' your also dealing with high levels of stress and anxiety not to mention whatever made you WANT to start your addiction in the first place may still be there to begin with, all of this means that the less you have to fight the normal issues of stress and hunger pains and listlessness etc from impropper eating and exercise the better you have the chance of fighting your addiction.

3) finally a two part solution, try to fight ANOTHER bad issue you have as well as trying to keep active. It sounds counter intuitive o take on more then one problem at a time but studies show that attempting to work on bad habits one at a time instead of a few at a time has fewer results. additionally keepign yourself mentally and physicly active can help tons. it's also great to combine these types of treatments. exercise and a new hobby? why not try martial arts? or basketball? think you have a poor vocabulary and want to work on it? try doing crossword puzzles, a new hobby and a problem area helped together. the reason for doing this is two fold. 1) you have less time where your actively thinking of your addiction and 2) any time you succed at something you feel like you can succed in something else even with small successes, while failures, unless there huge ones, don't make you feel like you can't succedd in other areas. I make a three pointer i feel like i can hit it from anywhere on the court. I miss a pass and i feel upset but it's not like i feel i can't make a shot afterwards.

I wish him luck.
