Treatment of traqueostomia?!

Question:

Treatment of traqueostomia?

Answers:

Hi Jenny parra7.
A tracheostomy or traqueostomia is a type of surgery performed on the neck to open a direct airway through an incision in the trachea (the windpipe), used in the treatment of sleep apnea, large tumors of the head or neck... It is a serious treatment, used as a last resort for people who either haven't had success with any other types of treatment or whose treatment is severe enough to be life-threatening or acute setting - maxillofacial injuries, large tumors of the head and neck, congenital tumors, e.g. branchial cyst, acute inflammation of head and neck, and
chronic / elective setting - when there is need for long term mechanical ventilation and tracheal toilet, e.g. comatose patients, surgery to the head and neck.

Many patients have a tracheostomy for improvement of breathing and for suctioning secretions from the lungs that are unable to clear with coughing. In most patients the tracheostomy enables a person to function more normally and continue to breathe, despite significant medical problems.

Your doctor or nurses will instruct you about this surgery in more detail. Having a tracheostomy should not interfere with normal activities. You should be able to continue iIndoor and outdoor activities. Patients with lung problems such as asthma, emphysema, and chronic bronchitis may have some shortness of breath and wheezing associated with exposure to extremely cold air.
