Green Tea and Thyroid Condition?!

Question:

Green Tea and Thyroid Condition?

Is there any reason why thyroid conditions and drinking green tea don't mix? If you're on thyroid medication, is there something in green tea that will react badly, and do you know why?

Answers:

I am not sure where you are getting your information. As far as I know there are no compounds found in green tea that adversely affect thyroid function or the function of the hormones it produces. If you are having an adverse reaction to drinking green tea it is more likely a allergy that you have developed to something in the tea.

Be cautious in using any herbal remedies. They are unregulated by the FDA and usually have no positive benefit despite their claims. Many of them claim to have clinical evidence. Unfortunately, there are many unscrupulous labs out there that will provide skewed evidence to prove just about anything their client wants. Until the government steps in and starts regulating herbals like the Germans and Europeans do this will continue to be a problem. There is a English translation of the German journal of herbal pharmacology available. consult your bookstores if you are interested in getting more accurate advice on the use of herbals than is available in the us.
