Massage Therapist?!

Question:

Massage Therapist?

what is the dress code for a massage therapist? the working environment, employment potential , stress and the special demands?

Answers:

All of these things depend on what field or specialty of massage therapy you're in.

IE: Dress code in a spa would probably be a little different than in a chiropractic clinic, or a chair massage station. But usually requires comfortable clothing, and many therapists prefer no shoes.

Different states have different rules about becoming licensed (some have none!)

The physical demands can be mediated with body mechanics (moving the most correct way for what you're trying to do, put less stress on your body)... if you attend a good school this will be stressed along with "focusing" or "grounding" which is the practice of concentrating on not absorbing your patient's energy, or vice versa (I'm not a big believer in energy work, but as our cells are made of atoms, which have electrons, I can grasp this concept on a more scientific level... & I have personally experience picking up someone else's energy. not fun)

Most massage therapists are self employed, but many also work part-time for other clinics or spas. I only know of a few who only work for one clinic & don't have any other side business, or their own practice.

it's not an easy job... but if you have an eagerness to understand the human body, and an urge to help people, it could be for you.

I believe what Ed is referring to is actually prostitution, which is a seperate therapy (i consider it a service which should be legalized & regulated... would have less confusion with massage therapists)
