The chief problem with old marijuana is that it is stale tasting and has lost some, perhaps most, of its potency. Your best use for it then would be to make a tincture with it. However, if one were to smoke old marijuana, there would be no substantive difference in terms of health from smoking fresher product. The one caveat here is this: never, ever smoke moldy weed. If it looks or smells like it has mildew or mold, it is unfit for consumption in any manner and should be tossed.
Otherwise, numerous scientific studies around the world confirm what we all know: marijuana is a non-addictive, relatively benign recreational herb that has many medicinal applications. Fresh is best, but old is still better than none.
