What are the best herbs etc... for sleep?!

Question:

What are the best herbs etc... for sleep?

Answers:

Depends on your sleep patterns.

If you fall asleep OK, but wake too early/during the night, Withania (Ashwaganda/Winter cherry) is very good.

Many people like valerian, but it can leave you a bit dopey in the morning, and a few people are actually stimulated with valerian.

I like the mix of oats and passionflower, especially if there is an aspect of anxiety.

Hops can help some people, but should not be used if there is any tendency to depression.

Lavender as a tea, or as an oil in a bath, or oil or fresh or dried plant under the pillow can be soothing and helps produce a relaxing sleep.

With any herbal preparations for sleep it is best to take them shortly after your evening meal so that you are more relaxed by the time you actually go to bed.

Other things to help sleep -
A warm bath in the evening.
Don't watch TV before going to bed (it helps put you to sleep, but the sleep is not as refreshing)
If you are being kept awake by thoughts in your head, the Bach flower White Chestnut can help Also, writing a list of what it is you need to remember can help take the pressure off so that it is safe to turn off and go to sleep.

I hope this helps and wish you some restful nights
