Question:

I have an open wound on my leg..should i be putting anything other than a dressing on?is there a honey that?

has medicinal qualities that i should use to help it heal faster and prevent infections?or would someone recommend something else?or do i just leave it alone?

Answers:

providing it is not infected, ask your pharmacist for a hydrocolloid dressing, this is designed to stay on for 3-5 days. It is water proof if applied correctly. It will heal the wound from the inside, promoting new capillary growth, this leaves less scarring. You will need to get advice on what to watch for, and advice on to know when to change the dressing. There may be a slight smell, this is normal, the dressing will appear "bubbly" over the wound, this again is normal. New wound research proves wounds heal better in a warm moist environment, and not a dry one. Each time you take a dressing off you take back the healing process by 8 hours. Speak to your pharmacist, show him the wound, they will advice you on what size and thickness of the dressing to use.
Good luck hope it heals soon
