Question:

My mother(65) is suffering from pain in her knees.?

she takes voveran 50mg almost daily.
some doctors say it is safe for her to take the medicine daily, but some disagree. can somebody
advise me on alternate medication,
naturopathy or any other method to avoid medicines as well as the pain.

Answers:

Your mother has arthritis and is on an anti-inflammatory like I am. Voveran is the same as Voltaren which is what I take but mine is the generic form.

Any medication one takes regularly can cause some kind of damage so it's important she try to keep some in her system to keep the pain level down. I'm supposed to take mine twice a day but many times I only get one in a day and other times I get two.

She should always take antacids about 15 minutes before taking the medication and when she takes the voveran, she needs to make sure she drinks a bottle of water with it each time to help protect her stomach and help flush it through her system. It is less apt to cause damage if she does that.

She can also look into doing liver cleansing and colon cleansing (not at the same time, though) in order to flush any toxins from her body.

I use Shaklee's Herb Lax for my colon cleanse and use that once or twice a week. I believe they also have a liver cleanse but I haven't checked into that yet. The liver cleanse can be done every 6 months.

I have tried alternative medicine and got no relief and ended up throwing good money away. She can find a homeopathic doctor in her area and give it a try and see if it helps but if not, she'll have to get back on the anti-inflammatory, drink lots of water each day and massage the areas when they hurt. If I don't take mine, I can barely walk and my fibromyalgia flairs up like mad and my back, shoulders and neck get so bad I can barely turn my head.

My cousin told me to try Glucosamine Choindrotin but it messed my stomach up pretty bad and I didn't see any improvement in my joints, unfortunately. My cousin says it helps her but she also takes anti-inflammatory medication so I'm not sure how she would know.

She is probably hitting bone on bone in the knees and along with the arthritis, may end up with worse pain down the road or like me, may have to have a knee replacement.

Good luck ~ she's very fortunate to have someone try to help her with this :)
