Sinusitis remedies?!

Question:

Sinusitis remedies?

Do you know of any sinus remedies? I have recurring sinusitis and it can be very painful sometimes and I need some remedies to help relieve the pain and the pressure.

Answers:

Though there are very classic symptoms that accompany sinusitis, the truth is that not every patient suffering from this condition presents the same symptoms. Doctors have come to classify sinusitis, in their off-medical-text jargon, as "dry sinusitis" and "wet sinusitis".

Dry sinusitis refers to an inflammation of the sinuses accompanied by sometimes severe pain due to congestion, and very dry mucus sitting within the concavities that form the sinuses. This type of sinus inflammation almost always comes with infection. The problem is that it's been widely accepted that infections are only produced by bacterias, but it has been recently discovered (in 2001) that there are sinus infections caused by fungus as well. And this type of infection may be preceded by mycotoxins and regular toxins coming from either outside sources (environment) or inside sources (i.e., continuous exposition to the same chemicals in foods day by day).

Wet sinusitis is characterized by runny nose, lethargy, allergy-like symptoms, mucus, and tiredness.

General recommendations:

1. Check out food sensitivities first: milk, cheese, corn, wheat, chocolate and EGGS (beware of eggs in sinusitis!). Eggs, particularly, contain a powerful destructive enzyme "avidine", which can severely irritate the mucus membrane that covers the sinuses.

2. Eliminate those foods you eat more frequently: do this at least for two months. When you expose your body to the same foods for years, the enzymes that brake them down decrease with time, and those raw proteins will have to face an aggressive reaction by the immune system. The result? Mucous formation to isolate those raw proteins which the body interpret as "foreigners" or toxins.

3. For the congestion and mucous formation: drink 4-5 TBSP of Swedish Bitter (an antique liquid herbal formula), and dilute it with 2 TBSP of Tea Tree Oil.

4. To strengthen the immune system locally: take 100 mg. of Zinc per day, and 3,000-4,000 mg. of Vit. C daily.

5. Massage your front head and both sides of your frontal upper head with Eucalyptus oil at night, and right after that apply gently a fomentation towel, not too hot, for about 15 minutes (re-heat the towel every time it gets colder). Do this about 45 mins. before going to bed at night.

6. This following juice is rich both in Beta-carotene (vegetarian version of vit. A) and Glutathione (a natural and non specific immune-modulator): Combine Carrot, Kale, Parsley, Ginger (1/4 of your index finger size), Celery, Lemon juice (about 1 ounce), and Apple--should make about 20 oz. Drink it slowly using a straw. Don't sweeten it, and don't add ice or cold water. (Repeat by mid afternoon. Don't have any dinner past 4 pm.)

7. Avoid fried foods, sugar (use Maple Syrup grade B instead), coffee, refined flours and cereals. Don't eat between meals--so, no snacks!

8. Drink plenty of water every day.

Good luck! :)

P.S.: This is how I treat my patients with sinusitis.
