What is this Henna Medication?!

Question:

What is this Henna Medication?

My friend gave me a medication for my acne called (Henna). He is from the Egyptian culture and says it is a natural supplement used since ancient times to cure skin irritations and etc, (acne). Well tonight I applied my first treatment to the section where my acne is more severe (my back) and the results were unfavorable. My skin feels smoother, "but" it has died my skin a shade of orange. I am scared for the condition of my skin and this new treatment. Can any one please tell me what this substance may in fact be or where i can find more information on it. I need as much info on this "henna" as possible please. It is a powdery green and smells like some type of plant i suppose.

Thanks and all comments are much obliged.

Answers:

For non-colour henna you need to buy a powder from blossom. It's quite expensive, and very rare to find in North America. Also very useful for firming the skin of the face.

All other types - green powder - from leaves, give Orange-red colour to the skin and hair.

A plant known as "wasma" also mix with henna to dye hair black. If you see a package of "black henna" in a Middle Eastern or Indian grocery it is probably indigo. It gives a bluish-black tint to the hair.

If you see a package of black hair dye from an American cosmetic company, it has some form of para-phenylenediamine in it.

Never use "black Henna" - it has mixed with
p-phenylenediamine to give that black jet colour,on your hair and skin - it can cause blistering, open sores, scarring, and lifelong health problems.

P.S.
Henna leaves yield the famous red dye used as body paint, and to stain hair, nails, cloth, and sometimes the manes of white Arab horses. The cooling, astringent leaves soothe fevers, headaches, stings, aching joints, and skin irritations. Henna is a is a flowering plant.Henna Blossoms are so fragrant, they've been used in perfumes since 1500 BCE.
