Is acupuncture supposed to hurt?!

Question:

Is acupuncture supposed to hurt?

For a few weeks, I was seeing this acupuncturist for my tinnitus, but I stopped going because the needles often hurt when she put them in. I've heard they aren't supposed to hurt and that it's only supposed to feel numb, so I thought that maybe she wasn't doing it correctly.

Answers:

Acupuncture is not supposed to hurt but my hurt once in awhile.

If it hurts on a regular basis and you are not improving then you may want to consider switching acupuncturists.

Remember, it is a needle getting "stuck" into you so feeling a bit "pinchy" at insertion is OK.

Also the occassional pain from a needle may happen too. But not on a regular basis.
