Psyllium fiber (or related natural fiber supplements) -- if I want to take it re!
Question:
Psyllium fiber (or related natural fiber supplements) -- if I want to take it regularly, just to clean selfout
Do I need to worry about "becoming dependent on it" -- not being able to take care of business without it -- if I take it daily? Please indicate if you're a naturopath, a nurse or an M.D. -- or a layperson
Answers:
Fiber supplements do not contain laxatives! You can take them regularly and not become dependent on them. I agree that you should be eating more high fiber food but as a boost to get started go ahead with the fiber. And, yes, do drink a lot of water after consuming the fiber supplement.
High fiber foods: Pears - 5.1 grams of fiber, whole wheat spaghetti - 6.3 grams, bran flakes cereal - 5.1 grams in 3/4 cup, lentils - 15.6 grams in 1 cup, (also high are lima beans, black beans, and canned baked beans), peas - 8.8 grams in 1 cup, artichoke - 6.5 grams in 1 med. size. You can do a web search on "high fiber foods" for a complet list of foods you might want to add to your diet. I was listing the ones that had the highest fiber content.
