Herbs for heating packs?!

Question:

Herbs for heating packs?

My mom wants to make her own heating packs, what would be the best kind of herb to use? With the heating pack she wants to put in the microwave. Any ideas would be great.... :)

Answers:

I've seen some of these herbal heating packs and it's one of the things on my list of products I want to supply when I get my herbal remedies store up and running. You want herbs that you like and ones that give off their natural essential oils with heat. The herbs listed on a pack I saw once included but were not limited to Lemongrass, Lavender, Chamomile, Gingerroot, Rose, and Mint.

I have made Dream Pillows and the herbs therein give off their scent even without heat, the strongest ones being Mugwort, Chocolate Mint, and Rose. I have the feeling that a non-heated herbal remedy like my Dream Pillows will give off scent for a long time, longer than a heated pack, because heat destroys essential oils. That's why the companies who distill and concentrate these oils instruct consumers to keep them tightly bottled and in the fridge, where I keep mine. However, I prefer to let the herb give off its oil rather than use the expensive concentrate.
