How do you mediate?!

Question:

How do you mediate?

What is mediation, how do you do it? I am very interested in doing this but I need some help.

Answers:

Mediation, a form of alternative dispute resolution (ADR), aims to assist two (or more) disputants in reaching an agreement. So, since this is in the Alternative Medicine section, I'm guessing you meant meditation. Here goes...

HOW TO MEDITATE
The results of centering yourself on a regular basis can be profound, but the actual process is simple. If possible, have a special place where you meditate every day at the same time. Here's what to do:

1. Set a timer for a span that seems realistic (15 minutes or so). Eventually try to work up to 45.

2. Find a comfortable position that keeps your back straight....sitting in a chair or cross legged on a cushion, or lying on your back with your knees bent.

3. Close your eyes and relax your muscles.

4. Tune in to the different sounds around you, just hearing them.

5. Take a few normal breaths and notice where in your body you feel them most distinctly. Say to yourself "in" each time you inhale and "out" each time you exhale.

6. When your mind wanders (which it will, constantly), don't judge or analyze. Just keep going back to the sensation of your breath again and again, until your timer sounds.

Good luck! Meditation is great for overall health.
