Can Tylenol Cold Multi-Symptom night make someone sick?!

Question:

Can Tylenol Cold Multi-Symptom night make someone sick?

I took it last night because of the common cold but today my stomach hurts and I feel really tired and my mouth is dry. Is there an ingredient that could have done this? or did my cold just turn into something else too?

Answers:

This happens to me all the time. The explanation my doctor gave me is simple, yet slightly disgusting. But I'll share it with you anyway:

What happens, especially at night is your sinuses drain down the back of your throat and it goes to your stomach. So now your stomach is trying to get rid of all that crud, causing stomach aches (also, Tylenol gives some people stomach aches anyway, so that could add to it).

As for the dry mouth, with any decongestant it dries you up. The medicine doesn't know the difference between your mouth and your nose, so it dries up everything, so be sure to get lots of fluid.

And as for feeling tired, remember, your body is trying to fight off an illness, so all of it's energy is going towards that, so rest is always good and be sure you're eating enough (despite the upset stomach) so try going on the BRAT (Banana, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast) diet when you're sick. They're all good for you but easy on your stomach.

If your symptoms get worse, I'd recommend going to the doctor, but I, myself have experienced these same problems with Tylenol cold products.

Hope you get to feeling better soon :)
