Can Accutane in teens affect mental health?!

Question:

Can Accutane in teens affect mental health?

I've read that Accutane in teens and other ages can cause mood swings and depression (courtesy of wikipedia =P), but is there any other possibilites? And does anyone have details on how Accutane affect moods?

Thank you for your time.

Answers:

I'm currently taking Accutane (For more than a year). So far it hasn't given me erratic mood swings. Only dry skin, especially on the lips. My night vision was slightly worsened, but that's a rare condition. There is a possibility that one could get mood swings and depression from Accutane. However, these are rare occurrences. Unless you are one of the unlucky minority, you should only get dried skin and lower tolerance to eye irritation.

The side effects to Accutane are dependent to your dosage. If you take it daily, the side effects would be much severe. Your dermatologist might recommend you to start taking it daily for a short period (depending on your acne condition). Once your acne condition improves, he/she might drop your dosage to once every 2 days.

Currently, my dermatologist has dropped my dosage to once a week. And my dried skin & lips condition has improved very much.
