Answers:

From what I was told at the Allergy doctor's office, dust, pollens, etc. contain microscopic "things" that irritate your nasal sinuses. Your body wakes up, investigates, and for some reason overreacts. It is like the snot switch is turned on but someone forgets how to turn off.

One of the holistic remedies I was told to try was to eat a tablespoon of honey every day. Buy the honey from a farmer who is within a 5 mile radius of your home. This might help a bit with pollens but I doubt it will help you much with dust.

Get rid of anything with feathers. Vacuum your mattress every week (or at least every two weeks) using a vacuum with a Hepa Filter. Remove all carpets. Use your A/C and don't open your windows. Change the A/C filter at least monthly. Wear a face mask when you dust and dust your house every day. Wash all your bedding weekly and use a little bleach. Vacuum your seating daily with a vacuum that has a Hepa filter. Always use a mattress pad so you can wash that with bleach weekly. Buy pillows that are made for people with allergies.

Or, go see an allergist, find out exactly what you're allergic to, and commit yourself to the regime of shots that will help you get over whatever it is you're allergic to.

Oh, forgot to mention. For some people, dairy products can make you more snotty if you're having an allergy fit.
