Question:

I read on a Paul McKenna hypnotism DVD that it shouldn't be used by anyone with clinical depression. Why?

Answers:

The problem is that people with clinical depression can use the hypnosis dvd and will feel great afterwards. However, since the therapy didn't necessarily deal with the cause of depression, chances are that the persons mood will "crash" and they will become even more depressed.

In some cases this may take someone from clinical depression to where they start having and/or acting on suicidal thoughts. Not a good thing at all.

In short there is a high probability that the person will end up being more depressed..

Clinical depression should firstly be treated with allopathic medicine, and if you want a complementary approach, seek out a well trained hypnotherapist. Dr Michael Yapko specialises in the use of hypnosis with depression. He is probably the world authority on it: http://www.yapko.com/

Also, as a side note, hypnosis should not be used by anyone with any mental illness, eg: schizophrenia, bipolar, etc.

Warm Regards,
David
