Chronic use of over the counter sleep aids can cause dependence on them. I did it with Tylenol PM a few years ago. It was rough trying to sleep without it at first but in time, my body got back to normal.
If your sleep problems have been going on for a long time, you need to see a doctor. All you're doing right now is masking it.
