Will valerian help with pain, and how should I test this?

I have heard and read that valerian root herb will help with pain. Also that it is what is used in valium. So does that mean it will have the same side effects?

I search and search but most stuff is using valerium for sleep. I must say I wouldn't mind the help getting to sleep and good sleep and being able to wake up well rested. But my main concern right now is just pain pain pain. I have a dr who ran tests and tests etc and am looking into getting a good dr to review, but it is like a 4 month period before I can even get an appointment. I've just been dealing because the severity and longevity of pain bouts had gone down, but this last one was unbearable.

Ibprofen 800mg absolutely no help. I haven't even taken over the counter pain meds that much in my life, very very occasionally, before all this pain maybe about 4 times a year. Yeah, vicoden helps lots, and I can even get in an exersize with it. No pain later from exersizing either b/c I don't over do it. But I am looking at natural options b/c I am in a new town, have to go to the new dr, and don't want to have the whole rigore done again. A lot of pain is arthritic and a lot is muscle. I am only 25 though and get looked at closely for abuse even though I am very careful before with vicoden and percocet, only small perscriptions and have a hubby in partnership with me so I don't fall victim to addiction, so not worried about that, just starting to hate drs, I guess they have regulations to follow. I also hate being compared to druggie deadbeats, I have a daughter that I want to play with not a high to keep going.

Valerian is used mostly used in sleep remedies so i wouldn't recommend it for pain relief,even for sleep its not that effective.It sounds like you need some strong pain relief but what are worried about of the side effects,have you talked to your doctor,i've always found ibuprofen to be extremely good at relieving pain without side effects....otherwise i would say codeine or stronger but these of course have more side effects and can be addictive....if taken in a responsible manner this could be the way to go.
