Is quinine used to treat leprosy?!

Question:

Is quinine used to treat leprosy?

Answers:

Quinine is a antimalarial medication. Interestingly, it is commonly consumed by many people as the main ingredient in tonic water, which was originally invented by the British in the colonial days to make taking the bitter chemical palatable (by adding tons of sugar and gin). Gin and tonic, anyone?

FLOUROQUINOLONES are a class of antibiotic including, Levoquin, Ciprofloxacin and Floxin (Ofloxicin). Floxin is one of the standard treatments for Mycobacterium leprae, the bacteria that causes Hansen's disease (leprosy).

Even more interestingly, the lepers in the Bible probably did not have Hansen's disease; most physicians believe they were probably talking about end-stage tuberculosis.
