5-HTP. When will i start feeling this stuff?!!?

I've just started to take 5-HTP pills for my depression. Should I only take 100 mg a day, or more often? When will this stuff kick in????


Answers:

5HTP alone will not cure depression (no single thing will), but it make sure that you are taking it at night because the intent is that it will help you get good sleep which should help ward off depression. You need to do other things, too, like stay away from white sugar and excessive amounts of coffee and liquor, and make sure you exercise every day - even a 20 minute walk will help. Eat more fresh fruits and vegetables, lean protein and whole grains (the less white bread the better). Also, eat eggs rich in omegas or take an omega supplement like a fish oil - I will not recommend a brand here but look for the ones that are very pure and you won't get that fishy taste. Also, if you are female, flax oil or ground golden flax seed (grind it up and put it in applesauce or yogurt) is GREAT. For women, I think that the flax and the fish oil are key and even more important than the 5HTP.
