B12 Complex/St. John's Wort??!


Question:

B12 Complex/St. John's Wort??

Can these two be taken together? Want to start the B12 complex but was wondering the effects with St. Johns Wort too. This is for a mild case of anxiety.


Answers:

As far as I know it is safe to take them together, and B12 certainly seems to be promising in the management of stress and anxiety. The evidence for St. John's Wort is less clear and a bit controversial: some people say it works, some studies say it doesn't. It can also have a toxic effect in some people or if taken in high dose.

Other natural sedatives like Passiflora, Valerian and Chamomile are much safer, so I would recommend taking one of these with B12 instead. Chamomile tea is a gentle, effective remedy for anxiety and insomnia, and basil is also a good herb to relieve jittery anxiety as well: you can make a tea from this too or just incorporate it into your cooking. I would also suggest Lemon Balm (Melissa): again, a tea made from this can relieve anxiety and it also tastes good too (very lemony and refreshing).
