Can take antibiotic and contraceptive at same time?!

Question:

Can take antibiotic and contraceptive at same time?

My friend recently went to see a dermatologist because of her terrible acne and he prescribe a contraceptive called dianette. She only took it for a 2 weeks and said her acne is getting worse so she asked me whether it is possible to take an antibiotic at the same time such as tetracycline. I say it might affect the contraceptive but she asked me to post this anyway.

Answers:

As you may know Oral contraceptives works on acne because of its hormone content. Acne is worsen by hormones (progestine) males hormones, wich are normally produce in our body toward the middle of our cycle, lets say 2 week after our period, then when we start a new ycle this hormones goes down, and then we have our face looking better. Have your friend noticed that? How will contracetives work then, they regulate changes on this hormones and will give her betterresults, but guess what, is not inmediately. This days we want everything know, with the push of a button, but that is not how medicine works, so she needs to be patient. I have read excellent results with this specific birthcontrol pill. She just need to be patient, even if she uses an antibiotic. Another drug that she can try is accutane, but she need to talk with her dermatologist about it. Hope it helps!
