The Indian name for terminalia chebula is HARITAKI.

Myrobalan fruits are the important source of tannin.
The tannin of Myrobalan are pyrogallol type (hydrolysable tannin)
Choplogic acid, chebulinic acid and corilagin are the hydrolysable
Tannin while cherubic acid, ellagic acid and gallic acid are the other
Contents. It is also contain glucose, orbital, gentiobiose and other
Sugar in traces.

Uses:1) Myrobalan is used mainly as an astringent, laxative, stomach chic and tonic.

2) It is used industrially in the dyeing and tannin industries.

Pharmacological Action: alterative, decongestant, laxative, anti-allergen, diuretic, analgesic, purgative, astringent.

Indications (Uses): diabetes, cough, worms, edema, skin conditions, yeast infection, bronchitis, hepatitis, spleenomegaly, kidney stones, eczema, hemorrhoids, gulma, hiccough, detox the GI tract, fevers, cough, asthma, urinary diseases, piles, worms, chronic diarrhea, dysentery, flatulence, vomiting, colic, enlarged spleen and liver. Infusion as gargle insore mouth and stomatitis, spongy and ulcerted gums.

Contraindications (Cautions): pregnancy, diarrhea

Constituents: Fruits have about 30% astringent substance due to chebulinic acid; also tannic acid, gallic acid, resin, and purgative anthraquinone.

Active Substances: Chebulagic and chebulinic acid and corilagin.
