Is there a natural remedy to a cold/flu?!

Question:

Is there a natural remedy to a cold/flu?

Any ideas on natural remedies for colds and flus? I've tried a few different things but want to find out more so I can really hit this thing. It's driving me crazy. I think it's a head cold cos it includes headache, blocked and runny nose, and sore eyes.

Answers:

Actually, there are lots. My mom is way into natural remedies, and I get sick a lot, so I've used a lot of them. Drink lots and lots of water. Hot showers will also help your runny nose to drain. And you can buy little bottles of saline spray to squirt up your nose, which will also help with the congestion. Vitamin supplements that work well for dealing with cold/flu are vitamin C (definitely lots of vitamin C!!), garlic, echinacea, and goldenseal. You should be able to buy all of these things in the pharmacy section at your grocery store. There's also this stuff from Canada called ColdFX which is new to the U.S. market. It's made from some sort of derivative of ginseng, and it's amazing. I'm not sure if you can find it everywhere, though, but I'm pretty sure Rite-Aid carries it. It's been a huge lifesaver for me, although it seems to work best if you take it right when you're first starting to feel sick, so it might be too late now. But remember it for the future!
You should also check out TheraFlu. You mix it up in hot water and drink it like tea, and you can buy different sorts depending on your symptoms, but mostly it'll soothe your throat, help clear up your congestion, and knock you out for a while so you can get some good sleep.
Finally, and probably most importantly, get lots of sleep!!
One other thing--your symptoms sound like you could have a sinus infection, which is usually characterized by pain around your eyes (upper cheeks and lower forehead, worse if you bend forward) and green mucus. Sinus infections sometimes take a really long time to go away on their own, so it's probably a good idea to go see your doctor and get this checked out. If it is a sinus infection, an antibiotic will get rid of it MUCH, much faster. Good luck!
