High bloodpressure and natural remedies?!

Question:

High bloodpressure and natural remedies?

...it is mild as she says, but her insurance ran out and she cannot afford the 100+ dollars for the medicine and says that she will lower it other ways. HOW IS THAT, please tell me. I want to help her, but she says there are ways, does anyone know what she is talking about?

Answers:

One of the best things to consider would be magnesium supplementation. Magnesium plays a huge role in relaxing the smooth muscles of the blood vessels, so it is vitally important when it comes to regulating proper blood pressure, among other things.

Given that 80% of the United States population is most likely magnesium deficient (1), supplementing magnesium makes sense anyway. But magnesium deficiency has been shown to be nearly always present in cases of hypertension (2), so it is an excellent and logical choice for treatment.

It is also well documented as a successful treatment, as the authors of a 1993 study in the American Journal of Hypertension state: "For the first time in a double-blind, placebo-controlled study, we have demonstrated that oral magnesium results in a significant dose-dependent reduction of systolic and diastolic blood pressure" (3).

Tip: The form of magnesium is important. Magnesium oxide should not be used, as it is very poorly absorbed (only about 4%). Magnesium citrate, magnesium malate, or magnesium chloride are examples of better forms.

Of course, check with your doctor or health care provider before starting any new supplements.

Hope this helps.
