Why do most herb remedies seem to be diuretic?!

Question:

Why do most herb remedies seem to be diuretic?

I was reading the old Culpepper book and most of the herbs/plants list diuretic as an action of them.

is this always a good thing?

Answers:

Herbal remedies are wonderful but must be prescribed by a qualified practitioner. Sadly, most alternatives are available for sale - something I really disagree with as they are largely not safe in general use. Even something like aromatherapy oils can be disastrous in the wrong hands.
There are many herbals that do have a diuretic effects - it's just a part of their properties & could form part of the prescribing by a herbalist - but if a diuretic effect wasn't required, it would be unlikely that they would be chosen.
