Anyone knows any good over the counter non addictive sleeping pills?!

Question:

Anyone knows any good over the counter non addictive sleeping pills?

I have trouble sleeping at night. I have tried 'sleepinal', they're some random pills I found at the farmacy store but they make me feel drowsy in the morning and I feel very tired and sleepy during the day, so I'd like to find a new pill that wont make me feel like that and that I can easily find at a drug store.

Answers:

I'm afraid that all the over the counter sleeping pills have the same active ingredient, diphenhydramine, which is the generic name of Benadryl. It can have the side effects that you mention.

Some people find the "dietary supplement", melatonin, helpful. Some people also find tryptophan or L tryptophan helpful in improving sleep. Milk is a natural source of tryptophan and heating the milk helps the body absorb it better.

Do you know why you are having trouble sleeping? A common cause is worrying about something in your life or having too much stress in your life. The long term solution to this is to resolve the problems and or to reduce the stress.

If you mind is active after you get in bed, sometimes reading an inspiriational book after you're in bed is helpful. If you are a Christian, you can gently repeat the name of Jesus and focus on that and ignore any thoughts that come to mind.

If you're not a religious person, you can gently repeat the word peace or love or something else that helps you feel calmer. One of the principles of this is that thoughts cause emotions and that you can't think of 2 things at the same time. Remember to be gentle, forcing the process can cause it's own anxiety.

I hope that something that I have written has been helpful.
