Is it safe to take vitamin C pills after it has expired?!

Question:

Is it safe to take vitamin C pills after it has expired?

Answers:

i used to work in a vitamin factory in the quality control lab. part of my job was to do shelf-life testing. your vitamins don't "go bad" after the expriation date like milk or meat might, they just lose potency. 500 mg after the expiration date might actually be closer to 480 mg, (for example). besides, the feds require expiration dates - some products (like a calcium supplement) may never ever lose any potency, but they have to be "expired" by federal law. as long as your not taking a liquid supplement or drug (these may grow bacteria or fungi after a while), vitamin supplements past expiration date are harmless. go ahead, save your self some money, and take them. you'll be fine.
