Massage therapy career question??!

Question:

Massage therapy career question??

can i learn how to do basic massage therapy online? if so does anyone know what sites? i have a busy work schedule right now but want to start learning how to become a massage therapist. I also dont want to go to a regular college for years at the moment because i'm just finishing a grueling paramedic program in july. (but i really want my career to be massage, therapeutic and relaxing) also does anyone know lisencing requirements?someone told me that here in pennsylvania you dont have to have a certification from a school to give massages for pay. any advice is appreciated. thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!

Answers:

You can learn basic techniques online but massage therapy isn't a "learn at home" career. Licensing requirements vary by state, sometimes by the county in the state. There are education requirements to be insured, and for national certification. School teaches more than technique, also anatomy, physiology, pathology, ethics, etc. There are some people who shouldn't get massage therapy, they may be on certain drugs which could be adversely affected by massage. And there are certain health conditions in which massage is contraindicated. If someone comes to you with an injury and you work on them without being trained, you could cause some serious damage.
If you are already in a paramedic program, you'll have a good background in the anatomy and physiology already, but I say wait until you have the time to go to school, fulfill the education requirements to become nationally certified and get insured. You'd only be short changing yourself and your clients trying to learn online by yourself.
