Can someone tell me what wheatgrass is exactly?

My friend told me to drink it for my Lupus. What types of things does it supposedly do for you? Another friend of mine says it made him really sick. So, is this stuff safe to try and does it help autoimmune diseases like Lupus?

However, it is something like wheat and something like grass.
