Where do you go to find out the definsion of all ingredents in a product?!

Question:

Where do you go to find out the definsion of all ingredents in a product?

I want to know what's in my lotion or toothpaste that is not good for me. But I don't know what the big words mean. Is there a site that can help me understand the ingredients and if they are natural or chemicals.

Answers:

Start with the manufacturer's website, then try the medline website or, as someone else suggested, look up the ingredients you don't understand. Mayoclinic.com has a great site and the ability to answer questions. But also be aware that things that are not food are not required to put everything in them on the package - that includes prescription medications and things like toothpaste. For example, recently it was discovered that a toothpaste contained nut oils but it was not listed and a user reacted to it. The manufacturer's response to the complaint was that toothpaste is not food and thus they are not required to list all ingredients on the package. But usually if you go to a manufacturer's website they will in fact include a full list of ingredients, which you can then use a search engine to interpret.
