Kombucha and the jitters?!

Question:

Kombucha and the jitters?

I have tried Kombucha and am thinkining of drinking it on a regular basis. I tried it for the first time today and it left me feeling slightly jittery with an increased heart rate-similar to drinking a lot of very strong coffee. Is this normal? If anyone has any info. on adverse affects or positive effects or stories please share.

Answers:

Are you sure the Kombucha was made properly? EVERYTHING has to be sterile in order to prepare and make the drink. You can let it ferment for 8-10 days, but for best results it should ferment for at least a month to take out the sugar content (this will also give it a tangy alcoholic like flavor). Also Kombucha is a detoxifier. That means that you need to be drinking a lot of water along with it to help it pass out the impurities in your system. If you don't drink enough water then the drink really does you no benefit.

Here's 2 good sites that tells you step by step how to prepare Kombucha, and how to know when it's ready or not:

And here's a Yahoo Kombucha group that is really good at answering questions you may have:
