Whats the best way to clear your sinus' at home (without medication)?!

Question:

Whats the best way to clear your sinus' at home (without medication)?

Any home remedies or certain things to eat/do?

Answers:

I do not have sinus problems but my wife and son do. I have in the past 15 years endeavoured to help them avoid sinus problems without medication as my wife is absolutely against reaching for the spray or other medication for relief.
Here's my two cents worth.

One way of reducing sinus problems is to eliminate, as far as possible, perfume use in the house. This means no air fresheners, no body perfumes and scented deodorents. Keep talc use to a minimum. Reduce insect repellents especially sprays. If you cannot eliminate any of the above, try a different brand as there may be another brand that you can tolerate. The change in brand or type cannot be evaluated overnight. You need to use it for a week or two before deciding. You must however stop use, quickly, if there is immediate intolerence.

The above is concerning all chemical sprays and other items in the house. Even shampoos and soaps must be included in the above list.

The other one is food. Certain types of food can increase chances of sneezing and a running nose. Avoid them. Fortunately, not all food cause sinus problems. Even similar food have a different reaction to the individual.

Some paints used in your homes can cause sinus problems. So, if you are having a problem with your nose in a particular room or house, consider the paint as a possible problem as certain paints continue to emit a scent for a long time.

Avoid carpets and fluffy rugs that can harbour dust and mites. Get rid of them totally. Do not use flannel blankets. Use thick cotton ones.

My list would scare anyone at first. On the contrary, the list is only for you to check. Many people can tolerate some items but must avoid others. So you should decide what causes you the most problems and eliminate or avoid it. There are other things you may find, that is not in the above list.

Eat plenty of fruits which contain Vit C. Some of the good ones are papaya and lemons. Papaya is perhaps the best source of the vital vitamins. Avoid oranges and limes as I find they do cause problems to my son. Lemons do not cause any problems to him. One thing both my wife and I agree is that ahigh intake of natural Vit C reduces problems of sinus.

One thing I must make clear is this. There is no way to avoid the morning-just-woke-sinus-rattli... The plus point is,
if you take the above steps, the rattling stops quickly after your breakfast.

If in the event a sinus attack is imminent, do what my wife does, only reach for the Vicks vaporub tub and apply it to your nose and throat only. The vapor will soothe things. Do not go for the nasal spray, if you can avoid it.

I wish you well and hope the above will help in the coming days.
