Question:

my dad stopped buying milk with that growth hormone because he said that their were causes that people got mentally sick from that milk. He also said that milk without the hormone wont make me grow as much as milk with it. And I want to grow, i'm 14

Answers:

come on you guys, get real. any chemical or additive given to an animal is directly passed on to anyone who eats it...period. There are studies that show that the growth rate of our teens as well as early puberty is directly related to those growth hormones!! So, to the young lady that asked the question....your dad is trying to look out for your best interest. He may have been a little embarassed to tell you that having breasts at 14 really isn't normal, or starting your period so young either. you may want to also tell him that if he's concerned about growth hormones in particular he should also be looking at the beef you're eating and the chickens...eggs too....and fish if it's farm raised. And...you could also thank him...he's actually doing you a huge favor.

To the guy that made the comment about organic being more expensive because organic farmers really don't get the 'deals' that large conventional farms do...that's really not correct. In actuallity the large big business farm has learned how to cut corners, thus cutting costs which allows them to offer their product at a cheaper cost. These shortcuts, if you will, are typically at the cost of quality and nutritional value of thier products. In comparison, the cost that is reflected in organic farming is a more accurate portrayal of the actual costs of farming...sustaining the land and giving back to the soil so it's not depleated and can continue to put forth healthy and nutritious foods. Because we have become so accustomed to seeing the cheap counterparts available in the grocery store we assume that organic is unfairly overpriced...which is not the case. I do understand what you say about being on a budget and feeding your family, but i still believe...you either pay it now, or you pay it later.
