Natural remedies overly hyped?!

Question:

Natural remedies overly hyped?

I'm getting tired of seeing books claiming to have natural or herbal treatments for every illness on the planet, while all modern medicine is evil. What's worse is that people will blindly follow any advice as long as someone tells them it's natural! No scientific support needed! Just out of curiosity, does anyone out there claim they have a "natural" cure for a burst appendix, an acute heart attack, and a stroke in progress?

Here's another one: anyone know what herbal remedy will help a premature baby, born at 26 weeks, to breathe?

straycat: actually, physicians' annual dues fund the college of physicians and surgeons.

yutu34: Chinese medicine is great, when prepared by grandma back in the village, not in a pill from a bottle.

Answers:

I'm wondering why your world view can't include both. I mean people blindly trust lots of things (including doctors, priests, naturapaths etc, the list goes on). Surely the outcome is the important thing.

The medical profession for many many years refuted that diet had anything to do with health and yet now they bombard us with this information.

Chinese medicine is considered 'alternative' and yet it is the result of 5000 years research and development.

Both Western, Eastern and alternative approaches are valid in different circumstances. Different strokes for different blokes.

Of course premmy babies need western medical intervention.

Come on mate, stop seeing the world and people in black and white, let some light and shade into your life..
