Prescription help?!

Question:

Prescription help?

It says 30 GM Ectosone Mild Cream 0.05%, Betamethasone Valerate 0.05% Drug Exp: 5/2008, APPLY TO AFFECTED AREA(S) 3 TIMES A DAY. Keep Out Of Reach Of Children. I've been prescribed this awile ago. What is in it and the details thanks much!

Answers:

Okay, it is 30 grams (total weight of amount dispensed) of Ectosone Mild Cream (brand name of the medicine) 0.05% (strength of the medicine). The active ingredient is betamethasone valerate, and I can tell you just from the name it is some type of steroid with anti-inflammatory properties. The 0.05% refers to the concentration of that medicine in the cream (the other 99.95% being made up of inactive ingredients). Because of what it is, and how it was prescribed, I would imagine it was given for something like a rash or eczema--it should treat the itching and swelling, and blisters, if there are any.

To use it, simply wash the affected areas gently with very mild soap and water (skip the soap if the area is very itchy or if the soap makes it worse), and then apply the cream. Do that three times a day until the problem clears.

The reason it should be kept out of reach of children is because they could eat it, or get it in their eyes or something equally bad. Also, it expires in May 2008, which means its effectiveness in treating the condition is only guaranteed until then.

Hope that helps.
