Will a poultice of knitbone/comfrey harm an infection?!
Question:
Will a poultice of knitbone/comfrey harm an infection?
I don't know much about herbal medicine, but this seems pretty simple, and I am capable of following instructions.
I've been reading about the benefits of comfrey, which, due to its allantoin content, encourages very quick cell regrowth. I have a small infected wound on my toe that threatens to put me in the hospital (mostly because the swelling scares me.) Neosporin has ceased to help for more than an hour or two.
My logic was that the comfrey would encourage the outer wound to heal quickly, and then, lacking the source of the infection, my body would do the rest (i.e. not heat/swell anymore.)
Even if it won't help, could it hurt? I expect to be prescribed penicillin when I see the doctor - will it interact with that?
Answers:
Comfry will not interact with oral medications. I do not know about topical medications. So if you are prescribed a topical medication I would not use the comfrey. It is a very safe affective herbal cure that you should defiantly try. Put it on 3-4 times a day.
