Meditation?!

Question:

Meditation?

I already perform breathing exercises and focusing to help with meditation; however, I find that I am still easily distracted.

Are there any particular techniques anyone can reccommend to me or alternative styles or meditation?

Answers:

I posted a Zen brochure I wrote to my blog on Yahoo 360 January 8th.

http://www.actualism.org teaches Aactualism meditation free.

There are places on the internet that teach vipissana meditation free.

Lastly if none of them work; buy a binaural tape or CD such as "Deep Insight", or "Deep Meditation" by Brain Sync.

in this method you do not have to try to focus your mind; Just listen to the tape or CD via headphones.

These binaural tapes play different frequencies in each ear, and your brain balances the tones and gets both hemispheres working together.

If you want a book; I would recommend "Taking The Path Of Zen" Robert Aitken.

Later after you have trained the Monkey mind; I would recommend you get "Zen Training: Methods And Philosophy" Katsuki Sekida. This book is like having a zen master in a book.

I personally recommend zen over actualism meditation or many of the guided meditations because before enlightenment; the mind passes through the mental state called makyo (where you have visual and audible halucinations). practising zen with your eyes partially open; will help limit makyo occurances. You job when makyo occurs is to ignore them and persist in your meditation.
