Answers:
ED (erectile dysfunction) pills usually have the effect of causing vasodilation or widening of blood vessels. The pills target biochemical pathways to inhibit enzymes for example in viagra (inhibits phosphodiesterase 5 - PDE5) and this in turn leads to the abundance of the substance nitric oxide which is an endogenous vasodilator.
So basically vasodilation = more blood flow to the site and no more erectile dysfunction.
The pills are a short term fix as they block the pathways as they are taken and therefore once you stop taking them then the effect is gone.
Of course there are side effects too because such pills are targetting enzymes in a not 100% specific way and research has shown that in some people other nonspecific effects may occur, hence it isnt suitable for all.
