yes it is useful to cleanse the body of all the toxins periodically.that is the reason ancient sages of India prescribed it twice a month on the 11th day of each fortnight after full moon and new moon.you should fast for 24 hrs and not more.in between if you can afford not to drink water also it will be wonderful.you can start chanting the name of your favorite god so that you will get peace of mind too apart from health
