My friend ask me today if I wanted to and I said no. He wanted the extra money so I gave him $20.00 and spare the needle sort of speak, but now I'm curious about this stuff.
Answers:
It's just like donating blood, only the process takes longer. You get a needle into a vein in your arm. White blood cells, red blood cells, etc are separated from the plasma which is why it takes longer than giving blood. Then they return the cells to your body and keep the plasma. My first trip took about 3 hours cuz they give you a mini-physical, fill out all sorts of paperwork etc. Other visits took about 2 hours. So it broke down to about $7.50 an hour, not including driving time.
