Refrigerating acidophilus?!

Question:

Refrigerating acidophilus?

I opened a bottle of acidophilus capsules 5 days ago and forgot to refrigerate them. Are the still ok to use? What's the reason for refrigerating?

Answers:

Acidophiles is a live culture normally present in our bodies that aids in digestion and assimilation of foods we ingest. This beneficial culture is destroyed by sugar, preservatives, dyes, antibiotics, and other chemicals we take into our bodies. A lack of this in our system produces a reduction in digestive capabilities and the absorption of nutrients from whatever we eat. A GOOD Medical Doctor ALWAYS reminds his patient to take acidophiles when he gives you a prescription for antibiotics. That is because he knows that antibiotics do not discriminate between good and bad bacteria. Their job is to kill it to make you well. Therefore the good bacterium needs to be replaced so as not to create future problems. Check your bottle, does it say refrigerate? Most good ones do. If it was not sitting near a heat source but in a fairly cool area I would continue to take it. I take acidophiles every day plus digestive enzymes and have changed my diet as to ingest minimal amounts of the things [ above ] that destroy my ability to digest and assimilate nutrients. Thus I stay healthier with a good immune system. Zoe
