Dr. wont allow contact lenses because I might go blind?!

Question:

Dr. wont allow contact lenses because I might go blind?

I went to the eye doctor today to get my eyes checked out for contact lenses, but after a while of talking to himhe said that if I got contact lenses then i might go blind, because i havent been wearing my glasses for 'awhile'. Which was actually has been about a week. He said that my eyes were in no condition to have contact lenses in because of me not wearing my glasses and I would have to wait till august till I could get my contacts.

*I would have to constantly have to wear my glasses till then and would have to prove I'm responsible enough to have them*

I would just like to know if I should just go to my other eye doctor or just wait 6 months till im "responsible" enough to have contact lenses. Is the doctor over-reacting?

Answers:

You don't say how old you are, but the doctor should not be making the decision for you unless there is a definite logical medical reason why he should. In your case, there's not. And even if your too young to make the decision, it then becomes your parents decision. Just because you haven't worn your glasses doesn't mean you will go blind. I wear contacts (and have worn them for years) and don't even own a pair of glasses, your Dr. is full of crap
Go find another dr and get the contacts you want.
