What were common remedies for illnesses in the eighteenth century in Britain?!
Question:
What were common remedies for illnesses in the eighteenth century in Britain?
I am looking for the false beliefs that people had, such as herbs, foods, and/or spirituality in London during the Eighteenth Century.
Answers:
There were some famous Doctors and Surgeons during that time.By that time they knew about sterilization of surgical instruments and sterile techs while doing surgery. They understood the concept of "bacteria" and spread of diseases through water, and other contamination etc.Doctors would compound there own medicines, used injectable narcotics, and used ether anesthesia for surgeries. There is much info on several websites.Don't know about the other foods & stuff but I do know that belief in the "occult",tarot cards, and fortune tellers and spirit mediums to contact the dead was very popular. Take care. SW RNP
