How can you treat ulcerated legs?!

Question:

How can you treat ulcerated legs?

Answers:

Leg ulcers can be caused by many different reasons. 70% will be caused by venous insufficiency, in other words problems with your veins. These type of ulcers can usually be cleared up by compression bandage therapy, which must be applied by a trained nurse. Compression therapy is the treatment of choice for these type of ulcers. If you attend your gp practice, the nurse can arrange to carry out a "doppler test" to test your circulation. It is a quick and painless proceedure(similar to having your blood pressure checked on your legs) After having this test, if the result shows that your circulation is poor, it will probably indicate that you have an arterial ulcer. These are more difficult to treat, but your gp may decide to refer you for further tests on your circulation. Other diseases such as diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis can also cause ulcers and a series of blood tests can help rule these out. See your gp or practice nurse at your clinic to have these tests carried out first. Good luck.
